Changing the numbering system was one of the most requested features by users. (You can see here: https://damnbugs.userecho.com/topic/545080-restart-the-id-of-the-bugs-with-new-projects/)
Before, all bug numbers were assigned across all projects (meaning you could have bug #1 in Project A and bug #2 in Project B) and many, many users wanted numbering per project, and we felt it was a valid/useful request.
This change will also allow us to eventually add a "Previous / Next" button, allowing users to go from one bug to the next easily.
I apologize for the inconvenience, and I assure you there be any more changes.
